The changing face of the modern day kitchen

If you’re considering a kitchen redesign, it’s no wonder. The kitchen is, after all, the most fraught after room in the house – next to the bedroom. The next time you have a few guests over, chances are they’ll be gathering in the kitchen. It’s a place of gastronomical pleasure and of late, technological innovation. Long gone are those tacky green appliances and the formica countertops. Just for fun watch this video of Walter Cronkite talking about the kitchen of the future.

Walter and his disposable dishes… it’s a big leap from the days when a microwave was a novelty. But, one things for certain, kitchens remain the center of technology. How about this: using a smart phone and connected appliances, a grocery shopper standing in the dairy section can check if that carton of milk at home is expired.

Ovens that not only clean themselves, but pre-heat themselves, too. Cooling concepts refrigerate individual food items at their ideal temperature and advanced filtration systems ensure the water you’re drinking is safe.

A drastic departure from the green refrigerators of the 60’s, but none less, advancements like these will continue and may even be part of your modern day kitchen “redesign” one day.
